About Richard Porter
Nature and wildlife photography has long been a passion of mine and while I prefer black and white photography, I recognize that some things just need to be photographed in color. Photography gives me the opportunity to show the beauty of God's creation in ways my viewers may be unaccustomed to seeing. While I always have had a love of photography, it took on a special meaning after a cycling accident resulted in a traumatic brain injury. There are things I struggle with now, but I'm blessed in that photography is not one of them. In fact, it was the camera that helped me begin to re-engage with the world. I sell fine art prints, as well as home and office decor items.
I come from a photojournalism background and therefore do very little computer manipulation, but will crop and adjust the tonal balance of an image if necessary. The one exception is a collection of black and white photos in which I use Photoshop to bring certain splashes of color back into the images.
I use nature and my photography as a form of therapy and generally take my dog, Lucy, along with me. Together we enjoy hikes into the canyons of West Texas and the mountains of Northern New Mexico and Colorado as I search for new photographic inspiration.
